In this writing assignment, I ask you to choose one item from the list below, research it, describe it, and explain why you believe it was such a helpful advance; one that demonstrates that humans had finally made true progress in medicine and healthcare delivery, and that the coming twentieth century might hold even more promise. Regardless of what was to come (even more amazing advances), the nineteenth century has several examples of new thinking, new techniques and new ideas for medical research scientists and healthcare providers to build on. Some did not originate in the United States, but certainly they all had an impact on healthcare in the U.S.
The Assignment:
Choose an item from the list of nineteenth century topics. Research and present the item in brief, but adequate descriptive detail, identifying the significance of it to the advance of healthcare or medicine. You should also include the primary people involved as well. (keep it short, 2 – 3 pages)
Explain why you chose this item, and connect it to any future advances, if possible. If there is an American connection to the item, please describe it as well. (Many advances, if not specifically from the United States, still may have been improved upon or adapted in the U.S.) (2 – 3 pages)
Citations – put your sources in APA fashion. Your research should include two to three sources at least.
Be clear and careful with your writing, checking punctuation, structure and spelling.
So, this is a brief assignment, you should be able to keep it to around 4 – 5 pages, and still be thorough.
