There will be one Turnitin submission box for Component Two but it will have two parts (one for Part A and one for Part B).
PART A: ETHICS REVIEW (POSTER)
Word count: 500 words
This assignment requires you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of ethical issues in criminological research and to demonstrate your skills in poster design.
The aim of the poster is to identify and explore key ethical issues that are faced by criminological researchers, using examples from real-life research studies.
You must use PowerPoint to design the poster and submit it to Turnitin via PDF.
PART B: RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Word count: 1000 words
The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate your learning from this module and apply it to a criminological field that you are interested in researching further. You will not undertake any research for this assignment. You only need to explain the steps you would take were you to conduct the research. Your topic should be one which is realistic for an undergraduate student to undertake.
You should organise your proposal under the following headings:
a) Title of Proposal, Research Question and Aims
You should give your proposal a title and identify a clear and precise research question. For example, “fear of crime” is not a suitable title or question – it is just a topic. Think along the lines of “What type of crime do young people fear the most”?
In other words, ensure that your research question is specific and answerable. You should then split your research question up into 3 research aims i.e. points you aim to explore in your research which all feed into your answer to your main research question.
b) Literature Review
Your literature review should identify four relevant research studies and explain how they inform your research question and research aims. Questions to address: How do research studies relate to your research question? What gaps do the studies leave that your research question will fill?
c) Methodology
Your methodology should describe what you intend to do and the methods you plan to use. You need to briefly outline your proposed sample and recruitment strategy, explain why the method you have chosen appropriate for your research question, and any problems you might encounter.
d) Ethics
Detail what ethical issues might be presented when you carry out the research and how you plan to resolve them.
e) References
Using Harvard style, list the sources you refer to in your report.
Please note: References are excluded from total word count but they are essential to the completion of the assessment.
