Strategy Course Reflection Paper

Think about an organization you have firsthand knowledge on. It could be a firm that employed you, a nonprofit you have volunteered for, your high school, College, etc. You are to write a two-page memo to the leader of that organization on how he/she/they should proceed over the next 12 to 24 months to bring the organization to the post-COVID new reality. The memo is framed as you are a consultant that the leader has asked to weigh in on: “How should we strategically proceed in the next one to two years given the disruptions of the last 3 months and the high level of uncertainty ahead?”

Note, you are NOT producing a strategic plan for the organization. You instead are describing what the organization should DO to start thinking about it’s next plan and longer term steps. This process should include various relevant concepts we have covered in this course such as leadership, strategy process, external influences, internal aspects, competitive position, and innovation.

Full credit will be given to papers that thoughtfully bring in materials from our class applied to the situation of the organizational leader. Materials from other coursework is also a positive. This is NOT a research paper though it is possible one or two articles on the organization may be helpful and is permitted. The focus here is to be on HOW the focal leader should be thinking about their organization in the mid-term future. What tools/frameworks/ideas should they be utilizing and why?

Assignment is to be a MAX of two pages, single spaced, 12 pt font.

The opening paragraph should set the “scene” or context of the organization from YOUR perspective. If you are addressing your high school principal for example, you would still need to start with your view of the major issues you see facing the high school right now.
