Next, read poem A Laundromat attached here
Then write a minimum of 2 healthy paragraphs on each poem:
1. How do they connect with the painting? You’ll want to think about images, shapes/lines, etc.
2. Where is each poem taking place? What is your sense of the speaker? When? Any other thing you can think of to help you describe how the poet is using the painting to write his poem.
3. The big question is: how, despite the same subject matter, do these poems treat the painting differently? What do we walk away with about the painting that we wouldn’t have if we had only seen the painting? Make sure you address the “volta” near the end of the poem that contains both the idea/feeling of the poem and a change from the beginning of the poem–it expands our expectations.
MAKE SURE you use quoted lines from each poem and use specific descriptions of the painting and any information that you read that is useful.
