Your personal essay will address the questions of the group project, but focus on two in a more detailed, in-depth way that also explores your engagement with course themes:
– How does the agency seek to cross barriers of difference and/or connect people?
– Be sure to analyze the themes from class that are a part of how your organization seeks to cross barriers of difference and/or connect people
– If you were to create an agency that addresses the issues of the one you researched, what would you do differently considering what you have studied this semester?
Questions of the group project
1. What is the audience or constituency served?
2. What are the issues to be solved?
3. What services are offered? How are these services understood as being necessary or helpful in this particular community?
4. What is the history of the agency?
5. How is the agency organized?
6. How might you assess effectiveness? What criteria do you use to judge success?
7. What things impede success?
8. How does the agency seek to cross barriers of difference and/or connect people?
9. If you were to create an agency that addresses the issues of the one you researched, what would you do differently considering what you have studied this semester? Be creative!

Criteria for Evaluation
Your paper will be evaluated on the IGE 6-point scale (rubric on Blackboard), with particular attention given to its:
• Clear and sustained argument…
• “Argument” means a position someone can reasonably disagree with, which helps explain HOW and/or WHY something happens.
• Supporting evidence from the course materials and research
• “Supporting” evidence means specific examples or quotes from your research or the course readings/movies. You must explain and interpret the meaning of your evidence, developing its implications for your larger argument. We will also be evaluating the quality of your outside sources.
• Original ideas, reasoning, and/or reflections that are appropriate to the prompt and course themes.
• Organization that connects the ideas and builds the author’s points.
• Clear prose with few grammatical, spelling, or other mechanical errors.
